Texas Connection-
Texas played a major role in the Civil War. It was resourceful and helpful in supplying the Confederacy with materials that they needed to have a chance at winning. Texas becoming a Confederate state caused many successes for the Confederacy, but it also caused some problems for Texas afterward.
Texas declared its secession from the United States on February 1st, 1861. They joined the Confederate States of America on March 2nd, 1861 after they replaced their governor, Sam Houston for refusing to take the oath of loyalty to the Confederacy. Across the Mississippi River, Texan military units were positioned. Although Texas was abundant with soldiers, Texas was mostly resourceful because they provided the Confederate states with weapons and horses. After the Civil War,Texans were affected in many ways. They were not able to sell their cotton to the Northern states. This caused them to go broke. Texas wasn’t making enough money to supply them with food, clothes, and maybe even shelter for some citizens. Although some cotton was sold to Mexico, they didn’t bring in enough money to supply them with everything they needed. Texas was left in ruins whether it be buildings or even families from losing loved ones in the Civil War.
Texas was definitely an important piece in the Civil War. Although the end result wasn’t the greatest, they didn’t give up without a fight. They truly made an impact.
